Fantastic Forth Future Engineers Summer Programme

The Contact and Education Centre in South Queensferry is hosting a range of fun engineering related activities for young people and families between 2 July and 11 August 2018.

The ‘Fantastic Forth, Future Engineers’ Summer Programme provides direct and inspiring experiences of engineering; encouraging young people and families to ‘take a closer look at engineering’ and showcases the variety and creativity of modern engineering.

All activities are offered FREE of charge and builds on the Forth Replacement Crossing project’s successful outreach and education programme whilst directly supporting the Year of Young People 2018

The range activities on offer are aimed at young people of all ages including:

  • Forth Bridges' Family Quests
  • Future Engineers Bridge Walk
  • Walk on the Forth Road Bridge to explore its scale and structure and compare this to its neighbouring bridges
  • Explore Engineering Taster Workshops – BOOKING information below
  • Women into Engineering Workshops – BOOKING information below
  • Forth Family Fun Days (Friday – Saturday).

Forth Bridges Family Quests

Monday – Saturday: 10am – 4pm

The ‘Fantastic Forth - Future Engineers’ Family Quests offers families opportunities to undertake problem solving and work together as a team to explore the Project Exhibition within the Contact and Education Centre and to go out on to the Forth Road Bridge and learn all about the unique setting of the fantastic three Forth bridges constructed in three different centuries.

No pre-booking is required.

Future Engineers Bridge Walk

Monday – Saturday: 10am – 4pm

The ‘Fantastic Forth - Future Engineers’ Bridge Walk encourages families to take the opportunity to walk across the Forth Road Bridge to explore its scale and structure whilst marvelling at its bridge neighbours and considering the differences between the three magnificent bridges that span three centuries.

On completion of this challenge, report to the Contact and Education Centre to find out if you are a lucky ‘Fantastic Forth Future Engineers’ Certificate of Achievement winner.

No pre-booking is required.

Engineering Taster Workshops

Tuesday and Wednesday: 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Ages: 9 - 14

The workshops aim to encourage and motivate young people to become future engineers.  The sessions will include a series of inspiring activities led by engineers from different areas of the Queensferry Crossing project and Transport Scotland.

Booking for your workshop can be made  via frcenquiries@transport.gov.scot with NAME, DATE OF BIRTH and PREFERRED DATES (1st, 2nd and 3rd choice options).

Women into Engineering Workshops

Forth Family Fun Days

Friday and Saturday: 10am – 4pm

A selection of family friendly activities for all age groups will be available within the Queensferry Crossing Project Exhibition Area including:

  • Bridge Design and Build Challenge
  • Tower Construction Challenge
  • Queensferry Crossing Lego Challenge
  • Queensferry Crossing Deck Construction Challenge
  • Queensferry Crossing Cable Stayed Bridge Model Making

Each activity will take approximately 45 – 60 minutes to complete.
