Access RestrictionsThe Forth Road Bridge is a vital transport link connecting Fife and the North of Scotland with Edinburgh and the South.
The regrettable but necessary closure of the bridge to allow for essential maintenance is therefore having a major impact on the communities and businesses that rely on the bridge to cross the Firth of Forth every day.
In co-ordination with the Scottish Government and a number of key stakeholders including Traffic Scotland, Police Scotland, the local authorities and rail and bus operators, a travel plan has been developed to minimise disruption and keep the country moving.
This information outlines alternative routes, diversions, closures and traffic management systems that have been put in place to cover the period of time the bridge will be closed to all traffic.
We rely on the co-operation of the travelling public and would ask you to plan your journeys in advance, and to consider the best route and time to travel (avoiding peak periods if at all possible).
As ever, the safety of all road users remains our primary concern.
We will continue to review and update this information so please check back for updates, and consider following us on social media channels for both the Forth Road Bridge and the South East Trunk Roads network: @forthroadbridge and @SETrunkRoads
The regrettable but necessary closure of the Forth Road Bridge is an unprecedented event, and a decision not taken lightly. The patience and co-operation of the travelling public throughout is very much appreciated.
