The Binks is the most distinguished of the old landing places in Queensferry.
It’s a natural rock formation that forms a jetty. It was from this jetty that Queen Margaret, wife of Malcolm, landed and embarked when passing the Firth of Forth. The Queen’s ferry is where Queensferry takes its name.
The Priory Church, which is now a Grade A-listed building, stands beside the small car park.
Over 600 years old, it was originally a Carmelite Friary invited by George of Dundas in 1330. In 1440, James Dundas confirmed a piece of land for the construction of the Monastery. Life there would have revolved around daily worship, farming, teaching and hospitality.
The church fell into disrepair during the 16th century. It was restored for the use of the Episcopal Church in 1890.
