Port Edgar Marina

South Queensferry

More than Boats

Port Edgar Marina is a vibrant setting nestling on the Firth of Forth between the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing.

Not just for boat owners, it’s a thriving watersports centre with great naval history, neighbouring harbours, boat tours and nice places to eat and shop.

If you want to get out on the water, the marina is home to one of the largest sailing schools in Scotland. Their taster sessions and guided trips are great if you want a fun experience with family and friends – try paddleboarding, windsurfing, keelboat sailing, canoeing or sea kayaking. If sailing’s your thing, the Yacht Club has some of the most active yacht racing programmes in the country.

Another way to get out on the water is via a sightseeing boat tour departing from Hawes Pier. A wide choice of operators pick up from the marina. Choose from thrilling RIB trips, views of Blackness Castle, a sedate cruise to the historic Inchcolm Island, a wildlife tour or yachting under the bridges. You can even charter a boat for your own tailor-made trip.

At low tide, the mudflats at Port Edgar (part of the Firth of Forth Site of Special Scientific Interest - SSSI) are a great place to spot wildlife. The mudflats provide the perfect habitat for waders, and you might even spot seals, dolphins, porpoises and puffins. Bring your binoculars!

From its humble beginnings as a fishing and ferry harbour, Port Edgar has an interesting history. In its time it has served as a naval base, with nearby Butlaw serving as a holiday camp for the families of the unemployed, a military hospital and a naval training centre.

Nowadays, it’s a thriving marina, perfect for a relaxed day out. Take a wander to admire the moored boats, enjoy some retail therapy at the specialist brand retailer Beacon Stores or check out all things boat-related in the chandlery. Pop into artisan producer Coco Chocolatier for divine chocolate experiences and follow with dinner at Down the Hatch, Scotts Bar and Restaurant, or at weekends, Outboard – the outside eating set up.

Top it all off with a romantic evening boat tour. It’s the ideal leisurely weekend or holiday treat!
